Long Time No Blog
I admit I'm not too fond of LJ, if my friends really gave a damn about what was going on with me they can IM, email or call me. Heh. But on occasions like this it is rather nice to be able to send out a general announcement. *AHEM* As most of you are aware, I moved down to AZ a couple of years ago to be closer to </a></b></a> starpanthress. Well long story short, things are going great between us and I asked her to marry me in early March. We have finally worked out the arrangmentes for the ceremony. We will be wed in Las Vegas at the Excalibur (yes in costume!) Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 AM. Now I would like to get current addresses from all of you so we can send out the invitations. So please Respond soon. And don't be afraid to IM me once in a while, eh? Later all, Rob aka DevonRex ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) </font> Current Mood: lovedCurrent Music: Love Hina-Sakurasaku | | Sunday, July 17th, 2005 | | 8:27 pm |
A good day!
Chrystle and I went out grovery shopping today and went to a different store than usual because of the sales it had running. We went into Sunflower and I was thrilled. It reminds me a lot of Burlingame Market, a small store near a friend's house in Portland I shopped at often. It had the largest freash meat selection and produce selction of any of the markets I've seen down here and the best prices. It leans towards organics and all natural products. So certian staples were absent, but for fruits and vegetables, cheese, ect I know where to go. I was also thrilled to see it carries some of my favorite treats. They have at least 6-7 different flavors of licorice. At least a dozen if you count the different types too. And they also carry Deschutes microbrews! I finally have a local source for Mirror Pond and Black Butte Porter! They also carry a couple other Portland area microbrews including Bridgeport. I've missed the beer from Portland so this was a happy surprise indeed. Speaking of Portland. The weather here is the direct polar opposite. In Portland if you walked outside at all you got wet, or at very least damp, whether it was raining or not. In Phoenix today I experienced the oddest rainstorm of my life. First it was in the mid-high 110's today. Then the sky darkened and the wind started blowing hard, dust and palmtree branches sworling aorund. As I looked out the front window I could feel waves of heat being blown in by the storm. A couple roomates and myself went out in it when it started to rain finally. It was still over a hundred degrees and very dry and the winds were still very heavy. It was an amazing sensation you would feel the cool rain hitting you but you could watch it dry as you were further rained on. The hot wind pressing and washing over me the whole time giving conflicting sensations and when the rain tapered off, I was dry befoer I went back inside. In Phoenix here you can't stay wet if you try. Current Mood: contentCurrent Music: Enya - Watermark | | Monday, July 11th, 2005 | | 6:19 pm |

The Early Cat gets the...speakers?!?
Speakers!!! Yes..free audio is good ^.^ I got up this morning for work, got ready and wandered out through the lobby when I saw a pair of decent sized speakers standing there. The attached sign read "free to a good home" and having the soft spot for strays that I do I immediately carried them into my apartment. Sony speakers about 3.5' high...now I just need to hook them up and see how they sound. *purrrs* happy kitty Current Mood: surprised | | Tuesday, January 4th, 2005 | | 10:38 pm |

Short-Term Plans
After much thought and weighing the pros and cons (yes pun intended), I've decided on giving up on Further Confusion this year. It's a lot of fun and the theme this year rocks (yay! Egyptian type stuff) and I had a rough plan on how to get down and who to stay with. I dont' want to list the reasons because they are frankly rather boring other than starting to save up for AnthroCon possibly this summer and I might have some friends from out of town visint these next few months and having an extra bit of cash then would certainly help then too. Have fun down in Cali! Current Mood: contemplativeCurrent Music: Prodigy - Voodoo People | | Thursday, November 11th, 2004 | | 3:50 pm |

An interesting offer...
Just a brief update: I know I have not posted in a while. Mom and Dad just called. They are thinking about retiring from their small business. They also offered me ownership of their business. There is a lot to weigh here and think over. On the plus side: I'd be my own boss, could take a couple months off each year and I would get the business assets (including the truck and trailer) On the minus side: I'd have to move back to Wisconsin, VERY early mornings, busy long days during the summer (the main selling season) It is a rather tempting offer, but it'd be a lot of work and I'd be stuck in rural Wisconsin with no community or like minded friends anywhere near me. Well if anyone would be willing to undertake this venture with me, it would make it much more feasible and the business' profits should be able to support two people. Anyone want to go to Wisconsin with me? Oh yeah..the business is a spice company doing mail order and traveling sales. Mostly at craft shows, flea markets and city events.. Hurry For Somnambulism! (and a new game)
As you might have guessed from the title, I sleepwalk. Not often but I did this morning/last night for sure, and possibly other times recently. The only reason I'm so sure this morning is I had an incrediibly vivid 'dream' of em wanderin gthrough my apartment desperately looking for my roomate/lover. In this dream I picked up a stack of mail from the counter and set it on my desk. And then I gave up in frustration and crashed on my bed. Then I woke up in the same position and the mail was on my desk. (Note I have a bin where all my mail goes on the counter) This would also possibly explain the odd bruises/scrapes I've found on myself recently. Also today I tried out a new collectible game at Wizards Toy Chest, the game store right down from my apartment. I was actually impressed with it. The game is called Navia Drapt, and it is sort of a collectible version of chess. It is a pure strategy game (no random elements wihtin the game itself), with some elements of resource management. If you enjoy chess or more strategic games check it out. Current Mood: restless | | Sunday, June 13th, 2004 | | 12:32 am |
One ammusing thing did happen though today..
During my rushing around trying to get ahold of frineds I passed through Pioneer Courthouse Square. For non PDX=ers it is a large bricked/cobble stoned courtyard wiht tiered seating that serves as a meetin g place/hang out/transit center/transient center/public performance area. Often there are Cristian Crusaders! (insert music here) preaching/yelling at the people gathered there and otngiht they were out in force wearing sandwhich boards with dire warnings abour hell, judgement and armageddon. And on the opposite end of the square the Buswieser Cyldsedale Team was on exhibition (and has been for a few days). My thought as I walked past to hop the light rail was of course. "So which one produces more horseshit?" Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: (but still mostly bitchy) | | Saturday, June 12th, 2004 | | 11:39 pm |
A dinner for two eaten by one...
Today was supposed to be a good day. I had plans a week running to meet with friends and have a great day. I even had preparations in order for a bit of a romantic surprise for one friend. Hanging out, dinner, Rose Festival and a concert at RF were all in the plans fo rmy day..sounded like a great day out with friends and even a co-worker. Alas...reality had other plans in store.. My ISP has been down for two days..is up for now (I'm not sure how long that will last). This factors into the story later..but we will get to that. I get up, tryin calling my friends who I was suppose d to spend the day wiht. i get his voice mail, lave a message and continue waiting. Since the majority of stuff we were to do was in the evening I'm not to worried at this point. I do som ecleaning, finish getting the salad for the late dinner prepped (spinach and cucumber) and the ingerdients for the pasta measured out so cooking it would only take a few minutes. And wait..and wait...still nothign from any of my friends. I manager to get a hold of a couple of 'maybes' and turns out they cna't make it..no problem..still my main firned and my co-worker. I know my comowrker likes to slepe in so it is late neouh now that he shuld be up so I try callng him. All I get is his answering machine. I'm not worred..since my co-worker and I tentatively agreed to meet at the carnival before the concert anyways. It all went down hill from there. Time that I had to leave arrived with no word from any of my friends. I grumble, feeling a bit rejected but still press on..there are otehr friends.my co-worker I might still hook-up with. So I hop a bus down town and over to one of the remaining 'maybe's apartment buliding and find out that he's not home and won't be bakc for quite a while. I manage to get back down to the rose festival jsut as the concert is starting up. Already the people are packed tightly and I cna't get very far in, much less see the stage. I enjoy the music nad look for my co-worker, but have no luck finding him. Listening the concert alone wear thin quick so I make my way back out..play a few carnivla games (the only enjoyment of the evneing) adn win a couple stuffed animals..and then get bakc on a bus home. When I opened my apartment door and look at the table and chairs I set up and candles..I sigh, removes the sheets drapign my couhs my computer table. All of it borrowed form my apt manager for nothing. I make the pasta..and eat slowly, it turned otu good, but well..it still felt odd since I had planned to share it wiht my friend. I sit donw and turn my comper on and find otu my internet is bakc for abti at least..and I get a IM form him timed 10AM saying he got an de-mail fom an old HS friend and is meeting her instead. and that he will call me when his cell phone is charged. Great..so aparatnely the plans we laid a week ago meant jack all to him. He could have used his roomate's phone to contact me or even a payphone. Cell phones dont' take that long to charge..and as I type this he still hasn't called. I love being blown off, makes me feel so appreciated. It LIVES!!! Muhuahahhahaaaa!
As Rocko and Cannon know my Intelliviosn was DOA upon unpacking it and hooking it up. We tried using my other one, but it's messed up controllers made the games hardly playable. My main system had issues with A/V output. So today I decided to opperate on them. First I opened up the dead system, couldn't find the problem in it so I carefully swappwed controllers into the other system (darn thin fragile wires made the procedure a delicate one). The opperation was a sucess though! And as a result I now have a fully working and responsive system and a bunch of scrap parts/garbage. Some of which may see life again as decoration in my apartment. Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: Fight Club soundtrack and Intellivision game noises | | Tuesday, May 18th, 2004 | | 3:03 am |

Management Training
This past weekend I attended the required classes so I cna manage a shift at Pizza Hut. It was alright, 16 hours of sitting aorudn that I got paid for. It didnt' help that I had a hard time keeping a straight face during it. The HR director teachign it looked and sounded exactly like the restauarant manager out of Office Space. I kept expecting him to pull someone aside to talk to them about their 'flair'. Current Mood: lonelyCurrent Music: Boards of Canada- Aquarius | | Tuesday, April 20th, 2004 | | 7:57 pm |
Maybe I Do Need To Get A Car Again (Or 'A Funny Thing Happend n my Way Downtown)
OK First off, I'm sick .I wont' bore you with the deatils, but the sinusinfection excaberated the unpleasant exprience with Tri-Met today. Agasint that unpleasant backdrop, this is what happened on my way down town today: (Cut & Pasted from an IM with a friend of mine.) I got on the bus heading downtown to go cash my paychecks and shortly after I sat down , I couldn't help but overhear the woman (mid-late 30's I didnt' really look at her much) in front of my talking on her cell phone. She' was loud, and from her half of the conversation..it was obvious she was new to Tri-Met (Portland's public transit) (she didn't even know what bus she was on) and getting frustrated. So I decided to offer her a bit of helpful advice. From her half of the conversation I gathered she was down on her luck. She was new in town, just lost her job, and was having trouble using Tri-Met to get around. I'm a nice guy and I I figured she could use a bit of help. Anywho. So after a bit of chat she gets the addresses for where she needs to go from her friend(s?) on the phone with her. And I tell her how to get to the Tri-Met info Center down town.(you can't miss it right in Pioneer Sqare) and that to find what busses, ect she neded to get around all she needed to do was ask down there and/or use the route planning terminals there. Then about 3/4 of my way throgh explaining it to her. This woman stops, looks at me and says "You have the most gorgeous eyebrows" and rubs her hand over them. My heart stills as I freez in a panic. And then then tacks on "So thick and soft" and maybe somethign else again about how good they looked. Suddenly I"m cringing back in my seat and instinctively reachign for the cable to let the driver know you want out at the next stop. Thankfully the next stop was then one I was going to get off at anywas. I managed to stamme the rest of the directions and then bolted the moment the bus stopped. So if any of you see me and I have shaved my eyebrows off..you now know why. Current Mood: sickCurrent Music: silence | | Friday, April 2nd, 2004 | | 8:47 pm |

Taco Bob Rides Again
I got a job finally. Wokring at Taco Time, yeah it's fast food, but it's money. So Tha'ts what I'll be up to for a while. History note:I worked at a Taco John's when I was in high school hence the 'Taco Bob' nickname. For somereason the nickname lost it's amusement when I actually saw a 'Taco Bob's' on the outskirts of Minneapolis. It sat in a run-down sub-division with a Miller Lite sign in the window that was half burnt-out. Well at least it's astart to getting me moved out and on my feet again. Current Mood: happy |
